Officer Resource Mobile

Is their any way we can access the regular forum from the iPhone or are we stuck with the "Officer Resource Mobile" version?

I believe you are stuck with the WAP forum. I believe that your phone automatically uses the wap. If anyone knows how to disable the wap on a phone speak up.

Tac what is the problem with the wap?

Not really a "problem" just don't like the mobile version. The few other forums I visit all appear normal on my phone. I'm not technologically savvy and didn't know if their was a way to view it differently.

I dont have an iPhone so I cant help with that particular one. Usually somewhere in the browser settings there is a way to change the way the phone views webpages. Not sure if it would be in there or not.

I'll see if i can add a style choser in there, I'm not sure how well it will work, since it automatically detects if your on a mobile phone and then switches to the mobile style.

*On the list

Caveman, here's what I came up with some research.

Quote:
iPhone doesn't support "WAP".
If the website is in WML, you can forget about it. If its just stripped down HTML with no browser detection, you're probably okay. iPhone renders the idea of "WAP" completely obsolete.
Quote:
Well, it partly is Safari's doing and part the website's, since all web-browsers publish their ID to the web server, who in turn base their response to the browser on this info (such as "Upgrade your Browser", or "Only IE is supported") or in this case, serve up the WAP version. On the Mac version
of Safari, there is a hidden option that let's you publish any one of a variety of browser ID's. This was left in for testing, but works to trick some servers into letting Safari use an IE-only site (which generally works fine).

There should be an option in the Safari preferences to block WAP browser identification so sites like this or weather.com render completely. It is a pain and some sites, no matter what URL you enter, still revert to the watered-down WAP version for the iPhone.
If the site detects your iPhone as a mobile device it may be force feeding the WAP to you. If you can't change your browser settings to fool the site into thinking you are a computer browser try this:

Quote:
This isn't safari doing it, its the website
. You'll have to look for a way around it by going to a page other than just mlb.com. For example mlb.mlb.com/index.jsp shows the regular page
For us I think you should try making sure your link is specific to: http://officerresource.com/forums/

I don't know what the WAP settins for OR is, maybe Dave can force them to "mobile.officerresource.co m." That would make it easy for WAP users to find it and the website wouldn't otherwise force WAP on a browser it mistakes for a mobile device.

Give these ideas a shot. Your iPhone should evidently not be looking at the WAP. It is probably incorrectly trying to process the WAP. If you can't change your browser settings to make your phone look like IE then try to force the long URL for the site. Let me know what happens and I'll try and help Dave fix it.

Personally, I like the wap forum on the curve.

Just type in the address as normal and it'll automatically detect your phone and use the wap forum.

I use the WAP forum all the time. Kinda nice because it strips out any graphics, hence speeding up the loading process

I'm looking into a mobile.officerresource.com solution right now.

I've added an exception into the plugin that hopefully detects if your phone is using either a Windows OS/Blackberry OS (smartphones/PDA's/blackberries) and if your on the iPhone it should detect that and not foce any style upon you any more.
