Looking for a WARM duty coat...ideas, brands, etc??

I'm on the prowl for a WARM duty coat/jacket. I would like to hear some opinions on what you have used and like, info such as brand & model.

I would like to find one that has a zip-out liner, and a short one that stops at the belt. Or, if it is just a touch longer, one that has the side zippers that allow your duty weapon to be exposed.

I prefer NOT to have a fuzzy collar.

I like things simple, so not a ton of pockets, straps, key hooks, pull out panels for patches and screen printing, etc. Although a few extra pockets would be kinda nice I suppose.

FWIW, I'm in Northern Colorado. Need to keep warm in the snow and 50+ mph wind!

Thanks in advance!

Well, my jacket is in my locker at work....so I can't give you a name brand.

And if you're buying it out of pocket...this may not be feasible.

My dept. issued winter jacket (I'm in MN) is a LEATHER coat, with two front pockets, and some fur lining around the bottom of the jacket. The fur is nice to create a warm fuzzy seal at the bottom. It's got a zippered closure with snaps over the zipper, to seal you up tight. It does NOT have a furry collar..(I hate that too).

It lets in absolutely ZERO wind and cold. It's perfect.

Btw....it's around $400.00....

Sounds like you are looking for a Blauer.

Nice jackets!

They make them with and without the fur.

LOL, my wife has a pair of those somewhere........

Anyhow, yes, I'll be paying for it. Any amount is OK as long as it is a good one.

Blauer.... I've seen the name, I'll do some looking into what they offer.

Thanks for the replys!

The department issued one I have has a removable liner, and it's very warm and has the zippers on either side of the coat so you can have your weapon exposed on either side. It's made by Blauer - and I do not see any particular model name on it.

The state issued a Blauer for our UASI team..probably the BEST police jacket i've ever had. It's VERY Visible, that dayglo reflective green, with this new black/reflective trim. it's double layered so that stitching patches and insigina onto the outer shell doesnt compromise the waterproofing, the zipper looks like something off of a dry suit, and it's warm as hell. I'll check what model it is later and let you know.

I have a Blauer jacket with the zip out liner. Its a great jacket. Has the zippers on the side fo your duty weapon. Not too many pockets. When it gets a little warm I just unzip the liner and its like a heavy wind breaker. It doesnt get cold enough down here to need a super heavy duty jacket.

I wear a 5.11 Tactical jacket. It has a nice inner liner. Here in South Dakota, it gets pretty damn cold, and most times I wear Under Armour underneath the uni and the inner liner from the 5.11 jacket.

I have a lightweight 511 that's about all I ever use. It does get cold here in N FL, but not like where you are. Between the under armour and the vest, poly uniform and light jacket, I'm good for just about anything except traffic or cold rain. 511 makes a really nice jacket that has all the bells and whistles, removable fleece liner, hood, the works, but really more than I would need. Check it out in Gall's or Police Supply Catalog. Always running specials and free give aways.

Well, I went with a Blauer. Nice jacket, light weight, but it seems very warm. I think it will work well for me.

Thanks to all that replied!
