Question Robberies: "No Hats, No Hoods & No Sunglasses"

This is cut-n-pasted from a different website (below). What do you think?

Robberies: "No Hats, No Hoods & No Sunglasses" in Banks?

You might have to doff that cap and remove the shades before cashing your check.

The Florida Bankers Association rolled out the "No Hats, No Hoods, No Sunglasses" program this week, noting that bank robberies in Florida soared 36 percent last year.

Signs will ask customers entering bank lobbies to remove those items before doing their business.

Customers who refuse will not be turned away, but they may be directed to a "more experienced" teller or to an area with more security.

"Bankers aren't just going to hope robbers won't come," said FBA president Alex Sanchez. "The 'No Hats' program is one more layer of protection."

Even when robberies occur, suspects should be more easily identified, the FBA says. Florida ranked ninth in the nation for bank robberies in 2006.

State and federal law enforcement agencies are on board, saying the program has worked elsewhere: Missouri adopted "No Hats" in 2002 and saw bank robberies drop 47 percent in three years.

Interesting.

This one could work either way. Either the prospective robber would be discouraged by the fact the identity would be easily given away, or the less than intelligent will comply, making themselves easier to ID.

ORRRRR......people still come in masked up and it has no effect at all.

Why not just get to the point and say "No Robberies"?

Actually.....I'd like to see someone try that...and see how it works.

How can you make fun of that? - Speed limit signs work so well on the highways!

I'm sure if the "Weapons Free Zone' signs weren't on our college campus, the jogger who was murdered a few years ago on the jogging track would have been much more dead than she is now, too.

You mean those don't work?

In MN, like most states I'm sure, business owners have the right to bans weapons (legal concealed carry) on the premises.

I don't go to those businesses.

I just don't tell them I've got a gun.

Is that a gun sir?

NOPE.

Actually in all the years that have carried concealed off duty only one person has ever noticed. She saw my ankle holster in church and thought it was a brace for an injury.

Exactly. I manage to carry and hide a full sized 1911.

My local credit union instituted this directly after they were robbed in mid-day. I have watched the manager tell peopl eto leave when they got stupid and argued they should have their hat on.

But the clerks also know I am a cop so coming in with the occasional shirt flapping open doesn't alarm them. As one teller told me, "well, I know we won't get robbed in any meaningful way for two minutes."

One of our credit unions out here has that policy...since I always wear hats on my days off, it always makes me look like an idiot when I make a deposit with some crazy hair.
