Giving back something during Police Week
The following is letter to a local newspaper. You might recognize the quote from Countybear. Police Week is an opportunity for civilians to give back something to those who have given so much. Let's show our support during Police Week. We can start by talking to friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc, about LE. Let them know you appreciate your local department and you support their efforts. Hearing something positive about LE from supporters opens up a chance to start changing public opinion.

This week is National Police Memorial Week(May 10-16, 2009). We have an opportunity this week to not only remember those who have been killed in the line of duty but also consider those who serve every day, who place themselves in danger every time they put on their uniform. It is a chance for us to recognize the selflessness of these brave individuals.
In recent months, many Officers have fallen in the line of duty. They were responding to calls for help and answered those calls without hesitation, determined to assist those who needed them. These men and women ask so little of us but in return give so much. They dedicate themselves to this job and are determined to give their very best.
“It is the responsibility of each of us to hear their cries, witness their tears, share their grief, but perhaps more importantly, we must realize that these losses suffered are worthy of our closest scrutinies and undivided attentions….The sacrifices of our honored dead should sound alarms throughout our society, and we as a people should take the offense of the killing of our protectors with the same indignation felt by the closest relation to these officers. They have displayed for us the greatest of all loves, and deserve that we display to them the highest of all honors; our resolve.” (Used with permission.)
Let us be resolved to support the rights of these brave, selfless individuals to defend themselves and those whose calls for help they answer. During National Police Memorial Week, we honor the fallen and respect those serving.
