Question about possible AWB
If they do successfully push an AWB through, does that ban the sale of entire assemblies or all parts completely. The reason I ask is that I want to have an AR with some add-ons, but I can not afford to get them now. If I purchase the weapon, and an AWB goes through, will I still be able to buy parts and accessories for it?

This is what I was told by a friend but I dont know if it would apply to accessories too:

One other thing P, the last AWB mandated that the weapon had to be assembled before the date the bill became law so keep that in mind.

I'm planning to buy in parts and build later... but if it does look liked a renewed AWB will come into play, I will speed up the build.

Thanks. I planned on having a fully functional weapon built before the end of the year, but I can't afford to buy the other toys for little while. Maybe since it was already a working weapon, they can't say anything about modifications?

All we can do is comment on the previous AWB that sunset several years ago. With a Dem congress and President the next one may be farther reaching than last time. I would count on it actually.

Well, we dont know when it will happen, or even if although we all agree it will most likely happen. You may have a little time. You also might put accessories on your Christmas list!

If you wanted to hedge your bets, purchase the part that is considered a firearm - the lower receiver.
Otherwise, nobody knows for sure.

Ah well that is totally understandable.
I ordered my stripped upper and lower today...4 to 6 week lead time. I guess this gives me time to work on my next step...

We've got a guy at work who is a FFL dealer. I was talking to him yesterday and he said that the shortest lead time he has gotten from any AR manufacturer's is 12-16 weeks for lowers/ complete guns. Hopefully we legal gun owners/ buyers are sending a BIG message to the Demo's, but I'm sure it will go in one ear and out the other.
The last time we had to deal with a ban, if you lowers you were good to go and could complete you build without issue. The last one that was proposed included parts as well as lowers. But I don't think that one made it out of committee. JOIN THE NRA!!!

They will not pass another AWB. Firstly the last one did nothing to stop gun violence, and secondly a lot of democrats weren't reelected to their next term and they know it. This is largely believed why republicans took over the senate in 1994.

Welcome to OR - odd place to tag in for your first post but we are glad to have you.
Please take a moment to introduce yourself in introductions!
Obama has declared his intent at change.gov to make the AWB permanent. It's back up after being taken down.
Hope you're right about his chances.
