A Chicago Police officer's bulletproof vest saved him from serious injury Thursday night in an apparent shoot-out on the Far South Side.
The unidentified officer was hit about 8:30 p.m. in the 13400 block of South Burley, police news affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The bullet hit his vest, preventing serious injury. He was not hospitalized, said Chicago Fire Department media affairs director Larry Langford.
The alleged shooter suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Langford said.
Police released few details about what prompted the shooting. The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating, said spokesman Mark Payne.
Be safe out there wear your vests. Speedy recovery for this Police Officer.
