That's a minimum. I'm not sure what the maximum is.

I agree, officers in some cities around here earn significantly more than that after a few years on the job - Cities like Frisco, Plano, etc. But their minimums are way below their maximums.

There's some areas in Texas where deputies make $25k / year. My wife made more than that 10 years ago answering phones.

Then, there's places where officers are above $60k, like Plano I believe. Plus, a lot of them work off-duty - But the poor Deputies making $25k out in rual areas don't have a hope of finding off-duty work, at least not $30/hour work like they can find around Dallas/Ft Worth.

Obviously, some places see the real value of Lt's and decided to pay them accordingly.

I take it that you're in agreement that $49k is about all they're worth, huh?

Where I live, patrol officers start out at $49k and go up to $62k. Heck, even recruits going to academy start out at $47k.

DCSO has never paid very well. I could top out higher than that working at UNT as a patrol officer.

I make 64k here pushing a radiator and I still have two more step increases. Our patrolmen top out at 73k now plus COL increases yearly.
